What is hymenoplasty?
Hymenoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure involving the construction/reconstruction of the hymen, which is a membrane covering the vaginal opening in some women. Not all women are born with an intact hymen, and some are even born without one.
Historically, the hymen has been associated with a women’s virginity. Hence, some women may want to undergo hymenoplasty to reconstruct their hymen for cultural, social or other personal reasons.
Procedure of Hymenoplasty
Hymenoplasty is usually performed under local anaesthesia.
• Excessive bleeding
• Pain during sexual intercourse
Also, the genitals are a sensitive area and one of the areas in the human body most prone to infections. As such, it is important to adhere closely to the post-care instructions given by the plastic surgeon.
