WRINKLE TREATMENTS IN SINGAPORE

Is the B-word a bad word?

Maybe 5 years ago, injecting toxins derived from bacteria was a taboo, but today, it has become increasingly accepted as a means of looking younger, and preventing the onset of aging.  In fact, in studies in the USA, over 99% of patients reported satisfaction with their treatments.

About injectable wrinkle treatments

Injectables are by no means a novel treatment. It was first approved for medical conditions such as strabismus (squinting eyes), blepharospasm (eyelid twitching), and hemifacial spasm (facial twitching), in the 1980s.
What we inject is a purified protein produced by a species of bacterium known as Clostridium. It is the most common non-surgical cosmetic procedure today, worldwide.  In the USA alone, it is reported that over 99% of patients reported that they were satisfied with this treatment.

Wrinkles are a result of muscle movement over a period of time. Facial expressions such as being happy, surprised, angry or annoyed, cause pleating or creasing of the overlying skin over various regions of our face.
After years of crinkling and wrinkling, these creases or lines start to linger longer and can become more pronounced. Like the folding of a piece of smooth paper, permanent lines will form over time. As women tend to be more expressive than men, and whose skin is typically more delicate, these lines may appear exaggerated and more permanent.
Many will agree that our face is the most used part of our body. We are recognized by family and friends, often by how we look. Our facial expressions often tell others of our mood and how we feel. It is also this ability to express ourselves through facial expressions that make us unique and differentiate us from other mammals.
However, this uniqueness, together with age, is often the culprit for wrinkles. Wrinkles are a result of muscle movement over a period of time. Facial expressions such as being happy, surprised, angry or annoyed will cause pleating or creasing of the overlying skin over various regions of our face.
Dynamic wrinkles are caused by contraction of muscles that are attached to the overlying skin. Each muscle contraction causes the skin to bunch together, forming lines between the bulks of the muscle.
Using simple injections, one can visibly smoothen and soften facial wrinkle lines. It works by reducing the activity of facial muscles and improvement can be seen within 5 days.
The most common locations for dynamic wrinkles are between the eyebrows i.e. frown lines, forehead lines and lines on the cheeks near the outer corners of the eyes, referred to as crow’s feet. Administering of a small and tiny injection into these specific muscles reduces their muscle action, thereby abolishing dynamic wrinkles. Results are seen in just days!
As we age and our skin loses precious collagen, and muscle activity eventually produces permanent lines in the skin, also known as static wrinkles. Static lines are notoriously more difficult to treat than dynamic lines, so it is best to prevent them before they form. Our injectable wrinkle solution helps to prevent further wrinkle formation by reducing these muscle activities.
A common question that we are often asked in our clinic is “how long does it last”? Just one session will last between 4-8 months. However, if you have a series of sessions the effect could last beyond 9 months to more than a year! So the effects of the wrinkle reducing injections can be cumulative.
Some individuals are unfortunate to suffer from Bruxism – grind of teeth / clenching of the jaw while asleep). It is a very disabling condition as the individuals afflicted with such a condition would invariably wake up with severe jaw pain, headache and over the long term, develop dental problems.
Using a simple injection to each muscle, we are able to reduce the tone of the involved muscles and in conjunction with other forms of therapy, helps to relive the symptoms of Bruxism.
The nice side effect is that your face will also be less squarish and sharper.
Unfortunately, for some, bulky calves is a common aesthetic concern for many Asian ladies, bulky calves often made their legs look shorter and this is further accentuated by their shorter stature, causing these ladies them to shy away from wearing anything that expose their calves.
The size of our calves is influenced by our genes, muscles and fat. If the calves are big and bulk due fatty tissues, then, VASER Liposuction can performed to contour the calves.
On the other hand, if the bulky calves are due to muscles, surgeries such as muscle ablation or injections can aid in contouring the calves. Muscle ablation surgeries are permanent and is an invasive way of calves contouring. It may affect mobility, long downtime and have higher risks of injuring the nerves.
Injections on the other hand, are a non-invasive and temporary means for patients looking to contour their bulky calves. With contouring techniques, the calves can be reshaped to provide a slimmer outlook
It is tricky for most to self determine if their big and bulky calves are due to fat or muscles. Thus, it is highly recommend that patients who are keen in contouring their calves consult a doctor who can shield more light.
One of the latest applications involves the injection of tiny micro-droplets of thesolution into the superficial skin of the face. The micro-injection technique will constrict the pores, causing them to look smaller. Due to the interaction with the pores, the surrounding muscles of the pores are restricted, which act as an “incentive” for the sebaceous glands to be less “hardworking”. Oil production is then reduced. This is particularly useful in oily skin that is prone to acne.
Overly large pores are unattractive and make the skin look patchy and rough. At times, even makeup and concealer do not help in concealing these “flaws”.
Skin pores are important in keeping our skin soft and hydrated. Sebaceous glands are contained within these pores. Sebaceous glands are responsible in producing oily/ waxy matter (also known as sebum) to lubricate our skin. For some people, the sebaceous glands may be “too hardworking” for their own good, excreting more than the required amount of sebum, making the skin oily and acne prone.
In addition, the constriction of the pores gives a tightening and lifting effect, making the face look more radiant.
Combined with chemical peels or lasers, our patients have experienced a remarkable improvement of their acne problems.
Sweating is the main way for thermoregulation for humans. Unfortunately for some, sweating is profuse, beyond what is necessary to cool the body. This condition is known as hyperhidrosis and caused by hyperactivity of the sympathetic nervous system.
People who suffer from hyperhidrosis will tend to sweat uncontrollably in unanticipated circumstances, which often causes embarrassment. They are often negatively affected by this condition.
People who suffer from palmar hyperhidrosis or sweaty palms sufferers frequently sees it as a social problem since, every time they shake hands, they leave the other person’s palm very moist– a sensation most people find unpleasant. Patients are affected physiologically (e.g. skin infection and extreme dry hands are common) and emotionally (e.g. shying away from hand shakes).
Patients with axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweaty armpits) tend to stain their clothes shortly after they dress and emit unpleasant odours. Conscientious efforts to use of deodorants may not help in severe cases.
Facial sweating and blushing is yet another over activity of the sympathetic system. This condition, however, has a milder consequence on the patient physiologically and emotionally.
We can place small injections to temporarily paralyze the nerves that trigger the sweat-glands activities. This can effectively and significantly reduce sweating for patients with such chronic sweating under the armpits, palms and foreheads.
After treatment you will able to wear your clothes and shake hands without the constant fear and stigma that is associated with these conditions.

Other applications

It has been found to give relief to migraine sufferers. It can be used to treat migraine headaches by injecting the area around the forehead muscle.
As we age, the platysma neck muscles become more lax or enlarged. Many people do not realize that platysmal bands and horizontal neck lines betrays their age as much as the wrinkles on their face. The solution is injected into the platysma neck muscles to relax the muscle and diminish the appearance of the bands. It softens and reduces the appearance of vertical neck lines.
Some individuals present with a stronger tone of the Depressor anguli oris muscles that give the ‘perpetual frowning’ or sad lines. An injection readily reduces such lines and works best in conjunction with fillers.
Smokers purse their lips on average seven times per cigarette (over one million times over ten years of smoking one pack per day). The repeated pursing creates vertical lines which create bleeding ‘lipsticks’ appearance. The injection can improve these wrinkles.
This is more pronounced in males and gives an ‘angry’ appearance. Simple injection therapy will certainly provide a ‘friendlier’ new look.
Such dimpling of the chin is very common amongst the middle aged and using a simple injection we are able to remove the unsightly appearance.
